Alan Levin, senior advisor to SoDel Concepts, was recently named to the Most Influential Delawareans list compiled by Delaware Online/The News Journal. Levin was honored in the business category.

“Alan helped take SoDel Concepts to the next level,” said Scott Kammerer, president of the hospitality company, which has 12 restaurants in Sussex County, Delaware. “He has been instrumental to our success. His skill, dedication to philanthropy and business acumen have made him an excellent advisor not only to me but also to the entire SoDel family.”

Born and raised in Wilmington, Levin is the son of Harry Levin, the founder of the much loved Happy Harry’s drugstores. The Concord High School graduate received his undergraduate degree from Tulane University and his law degree from the Delaware Law School.

After serving as the deputy attorney general in the Delaware Department of Justice and executive assistant and counsel to U.S. Sen. William V. Roth Jr., Levin joined the family business. Happy Harry’s expanded to 76 locations and 2,700 employees under his leadership and was the 10th-largest drugstore in the United States.

After Walgreens purchased Happy Harry’s in 2006, Levin became the Delaware Economic Department Office’s cabinet secretary under Gov. Jack Markell. He’s played a pivotal role in the growth of Amazon in the state.

“Alan has received an impressive number of accolades for his business development efforts and his dedication to business and civic organizations,” Kammerer said. “He is deserving of this latest recognition, and we’re honored that he is on the SoDel team.”

Levin divides his time between Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach. He and his wife, Ellen, have three sons: Andrew, Daniel and Jason. They have three granddaughters and one grandson and a golden retriever, Kasha.
